Few things can vex a dog owner as much as finding ants in your dog’s bowl. It doesn’t make your dog too happy, either, especially if she likes to eat outside and if she eats her meal in portions, rather than all-at-once.
Keeping Ants Out My Dog's Food Bowl | ThriftyFun
No more ants or bugs in my dog's food bowl - AntBlocker
I experimented with all the ways people try to solve this problem, the classic pie tin with water in it, placing the food bowls in different places every day to fool the ants- all that really did was irritate Ling-Ling and Binky- didn't trick the ants a bit..they would look at me like I was an idiot.... For me , the big flaw in the pie tin method was the water part- which ironically, was the working part of the whole deal. First, the dogs would usually drink it, second- I bring the dog bowls inside on the kitchen counter to prepare dinner , then bring them back outside, bringing in dripping wet bowls made the wife mad and mad wives are even worse than Ant problems. There are food dishes for dogs specifically made to keep out crawling insects ( for people who feed their pets outside) that have a bowl-within-a-bowl kind of design. The idea is you fill up the "outer ring" of the bowl with water, then the food is in an inner circle in the bowl, so that the food is surrounded by a type of moat, for lack of a better description. The ants can climb up the side but can't get past the moat to the food. You can get these at most any pet store, I think. I have seen them around quite a few times.I'm in a quandry. The dog has to have his food and water, but I don't know how to get rid of these ants. I don't want to move the bowls into another room for fear that the ants will just follow. How to keep ants out of your dog's food bowls: Set bowl on a tray filled with water. If the ants are brave enough to climb up into the tray, they will drown. So far, no ant has tried.
