This vest remains true to the Duluth line up - durable and practical. I was looking for a minimalist vest for Pheasant hunting in South Dakota and I wanted to go a different route from the traditional game vest. This vest initially caught my eye because of the price point.
The front pockets and game bag are both great sizes. The magnetic flaps are a nice touch - If I am ever worried about dumping gear out through the magnetic flap I can easily transfer my ammo/gear into the internal zippered compartment.
I guide pheasant hunters so this vest has been put through its paces - everything is holding strong half way through its second season. The water bottle pocket is located in the game bag. I found this rather inconvenient when I initially purchased the vest and still struggle with that pocket.
I would like to see an additional, internal, weight bearing belt connected directly to the game bag. I run dogs while guiding, so I seem to end up with a majority of the birds by the time I make to the end of a field. Also, I would like to see added width should pads integrated on the shoulder straps. This would help with weight distribution when carrying heavier loads. I believe these two items could be accomplished while still keeping the minimalist feel that this vest has.
I’ve had “encounters” with deer hunters before. For the most part they want to stay out of your way as much as you want to stay away from them. Deer hunters with an ounce of sence won’t hunt a section of ground they know is going to be hunted by people in orange Vests toting shotguns and several dogs quartering the field in front of them. Although, on second thought, if you HAVE to hunt public ground, then that’s a sticky situation. Who has MORE right to hunt that area?
So should tactical vests never be used on your hunting dog?
