ok so m looking into ether merrick or Blue Buffalo. I have narrow down from friends, family and other opinions/advice. Both have their plus and minus’s, the Merrick classic seems to have better reviews on dogs stools and system in general, and The Blue Buffalo the longevity seems to have nothing negative….so far. I Have used Natural Balance for years, but after a few recalls and a memory of some bladder problems in my lab……im looking for a great, safe, quality dog food. There is no local place to buy the Orijen, which I was also considering. So I’m looking for just a ‘cut to the chase’ opinion or advise to my search!!!
I have a 5 month old puppy. When I got her, she had been previously fed Purina Puppy Chow. I noticed that she was making gross, runny, rancid eliminations. She was lethargic, not really active or energetic like a puppy should be, and she shivered a lot, which of course can be indicative that they don't feel well. I decided to switch her to Merrick Backcountry Raw Infused Puppy food at a friend's recommendation. For the first couple of days, I noticed a little bit of a change in her eliminations, and not so much her mood or energy levels. Around day five, I said "screw it" and started feeding her exclusively Merrick, and once she got the purina puppy poison out of her system, she was an entirely different dog. Because Merrick is such good food, anything else that I give her makes her ill (like someone who eats well and occasionally eats fast food, their body is just not used to eating poorly), so we're very vigilant that she gets nothing that contains wheat; her only treats are dehydrated meats, freeze-dried raw cubes, and grass-fed bully sticks. Additionally, her breed is known for having dry skin and dull coats, but her coat shines and gets remarked on all of the time for bing so nice. Thank you Merrick, for making and keeping my dog healthy!

As to recalls, i recently discovered Merrick did indeed have MANY recalls. I am very disappointed, as I thought it was a health, safe choice for my dogs. And now reading it has joined with Purina, I will never purchase this product again. I am thankful my boys have not suffered any terrible side effects, other than the canned puppy food gave my new little guy gas and diarrhea. Check out best dog food reviews.
