Royal Canin Giant Dog Food - an independent review, star rating and recall history by the editors of The Dog Food Advisor.
We have used Royal Canin for years until a recent purchase of dog food. My pug is not the same, she started off with diarrhea one week and now vomiting the next week. We took away her food and started her on bland food, chicken and rice. She started to introduce her normal food and after her vomiting again she is refusing to eat any food. We have never had any issues until this month. After reading all the reviews I am terrified for my dog.
My dog is at the first stage of kidney failure. Vet suggested Royal Canin Renal food because Hill's k/d seemed not to interest my dog's appetite anymore. I bought the can version and I was amazed to see my dog eating the food without complaints. On the contrary he liked this food very much. Then I was curious to see if the dry food is tasty as the wet one and went to a research before I buy some. And then I read the Consumer Affairs reviews and I got worried. First I have to admit I was skeptical because these are very tricky times and you shouldn't believe everything you read, or at least I thought that since my dog's food is made in EU and I haven't heard about complaints in Greece, I should be alarmed but not to the point of being hysterical.

I am writing this review in hopes of helping other pet owners the way that their reviews have helped us. Our dog was on Royal Canin Urinary SO dry food for three years for chronic bladder infections and crystals in her bladder. I've discovered that Royal Canin Urinary SO is highly processed, loaded with byproducts and potential allergens (corn...), which is surprising because this food is so expensive. They don't list the ingredients online which makes it difficult to research.I was looking for a cheaper but decent dog food for my 12 month old Bull Mastiff Bella. She had previously been eating Eukanuba with a little rice. When her stools became runny I decided to try Royal Canin sensitive on the advice of our pet shop. Two days after starting this new food I noticed lumps appearing all over her body, I didn't think too much of it as they didn't seem to be bothering her. However by the end of the week she was scratching like crazy her previously shiny coat was dull, her fur was falling out more so than usual and she just didn't have the same amount of energy that a 12 month old puppy should. I stopped the food immediately. I will never buy this food again and I will inform my pet shop. I have since put her back on Eukanuba and she is almost her normal self.
