I have noticed the Bulldog Royal Canin has different ingredients than the other puppy food. Would this make it hard to make a decision regarding your dog if you did not own a Shepherd?
My 8 month old Shih-Tzu / Bichon Frise cross puppy has been fed Royal Canin Mini Puppy since he was able to eat solid food at the breeder. He does very well on it and likes it. I mix it 50/50 with Oven Baked Tradition puppy. What is interesting, is that I tried to switch him off the Royal Canin to a “higher-rated food” along with the Oven Baked but he didn’t like any of the 3 I tried (GO!, Taste of the Wild, and Fromm 4* grain free). I spoke with 4 pet store associates – all from different stores – and they all said Royal Canin is great but has a bad rap and that they recommend it to people as one of the best dog foods. I will keep him on the Royal Canin and Oven Baked until he moves over to adult food and then may try to see what other brands he likes, simply for variety. I’ve read that alternating between foods is good to avoid possible food allergies, has anyone done that? What foods do you switch between?

I had a chihuahua for three years and I fed him Royal Canin food since he was a puppy to adult. One day, I noticed he started developing issues with urinating and just feeling VERY sick. I took him to the vet, had some X-rays done and bad news came. My poor Bobby was diagnosed with very very large bladder stones and a severe urinary tract infection. My vet told me that this was 95% from food. Not even surgery would help and I was forced to put him down, there was no option. My dog never had any symptoms and this came as a shock. When I got my Puppy at 3 months, she had already been eating Royal Canin Dog Food. The Dog Food is bagged according to the Breed of your Dog & your Dog's age. On the bag is the recommended measurement, according to your Dog's weight, to be served & how many times a day. My Chihuahua has enjoyed her food & never rejects her meal; she always looks forward to her feeding. I do not give her any treats but if I think it's warranted, I give her 1 little Kernel which she thinks is great.I found this brand of dog food to be excellent for my Maltese. We have had Mikey since he was a puppy and he was diagnosed with diabetes a couple years ago. Royal Canin is a great product. My dog loves it! Mikey is now blind but still gets around and does not tire of Royal Canin for diabetic dogs. We just love him!Royal Canin is an overpriced 2.5 star rated kibble. For the same money you can be feeding your loved on a top 5 star rated puppy kibble. Spend some time and read the detailed evaluation above of Royal Canine products. Remember to transitions slowly to a new dog food. I suspect your vet will have some recommendations based on the medical condition.
