Costco Dog Food - Dogswell Vitality For Dogs, Chicken & Oats Recipe Dry Dog Food, 22.5-pound Bag.
My suggestion was simply to remember to consider caloric value (along with quality ingredients) when comparing costs of dog foods. My example was to provide a range of caloric values available in like foods. I wasn't recommending any food over another. By "fairly healthy," I meant a good quality well-balanced food without cheap fillers (like corn). Since the question arose, the food which I noticed most recently at a warehouse is called Dog's Well - Vitality. Calories per cup: 350. I just happened to be comparing generally balanced foods with chicken as the highest protein ingredient (not grain free, or otherwise rich ingredients). Just comparing "apples to apples" so to speak.
A dog food that touts its goodness whenever it can is Pedigree and many are familiar with Pedigree’s advertising campaigns from the past, featuring the different dog breeds and claiming that Pedigree helped the dogs achieve their championship status in the show ring. Pedigree offers several variations on its dog foods and among them is Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food.
Dog Food Facts and Commentary:
Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food is a dog food comprised of small to medium size kibbles and packaged in bags up to near 50 pounds. These larger bags are very economical from a cost per pound perspective and they offer enough food to last your dog a good long time.
Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food is much like other Pedigree brands/styles/flavors in most ways. It is average at best when judged by its ingredients, with many fillers, meat by products, and other things that are useless to a dog at best, or potentially harmful at worst. From a taste perspective, Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food is also about the same as the other Pedigrees. It seems tasty enough that most any dog will like it, even if they don’t eat it with abandon.
Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food is an acceptable food for most dogs and one other nice quality is that the Pedigree brand is easy to find. Anyplace you go that has a good amount of dog food for sale is likely to have Pedigree brands in stock. This particular one may or may not be among them, but you can count on Pedigree in most grocery stores, pet stores, and even in some convenience stores.
Bottom Line Viewpoint:
Pedigree Healthy Vitality Dry Dog Food is much like other Pedigree foods, and that means it is acceptable, but nothing remarkable. It rates better than other popular brands, but it is barely good enough to recommend and I will be the first to admit there are better brands available.
Quality of Ingredients The ingredients are not the best, but for a mainstream dog food, it isn't too bad.
Flavor Selection Pedigree offers a wide range of different flavors and dogs seem to like the taste of most of them.

Never had an issue in 3 years – he was on a buffalo diet $50+ a 20lb bag and this bag at costco is $30… much better and more lbs… it is hard to find a dog food without fish oil in it… (allergies to fish)… however my puppy doesn’t seem to be holding weight on this (12 week german shep) however that could be because the other dog is pushing him off
